In practice, as of July 2026 it holds 2.6 stars on the App Store and 2.4 on Google Play, and that gap between pedigree and polish is really what this comparison is about.

MotorMouth's real strength: where the data comes from
Credit first. Informed Sources has been in the fuel price business since 2000, and when Queensland and South Australia introduced mandatory price reporting, it won the government contracts to aggregate that data. MotorMouth also integrated NSW FuelCheck data back in 2016. Layered on top is the company's own retailer monitoring network and user price submissions. If you care about data lineage, MotorMouth's is genuinely impressive, and unlike most free apps, its store listings carry no advertising flags at all.
The problem: the apps themselves
Store ratings tell the story bluntly. Twenty-seven App Store ratings averaging 2.6 stars is a strikingly small and unhappy review base for an app this old; Google Play sits at 2.4 from over a thousand reviews. Recent reviewers describe prices that lag reality, and the app went through a rough patch where it displayed a blank screen for weeks after iOS 18 landed in late 2024. Both apps were updated in April 2026, so it's clearly still maintained, but the experience hasn't caught up with the data underneath it.
